Harbor Views
You’ve seen the boats moored just offshore but probably haven’t given them much thought. The city of Santa Barbara has, and Nathan Welton reports there are big plans for Fool’s Anchorage on the horizon.

Treacherous fog and wrong turns
M. S. “Doc’’ Kelliher was 88 years old when he began building a diorama of a scene seared into his mind as a boy — the U.S. Navy’s worst peacetime disaster in history in terms of ships lost, on a lonely rocky coast southwest of Lompoc.

Maritime Museum’s sea life in miniature
Toy ships are tossed askew against rocks at Honda on today’s Vandenberg Air Force Base in a diorama of the worst peacetime Naval disaster in U.S. history.

South Coast Deli’s deli-ghtful milestone
In search of the perfect lunch? How does a Cajun turkey sandwich featuring oven-roasted turkey, tomatoes, red onions and shredded cabbage seasoned with garlic-tabasco-dijon mayonnaise sound? Or maybe you’re in the mood for a good cup of hot coffee or a quick fruit smoothie?

McDonald’s healthy meal is a happy meal
In the 1970s, Santa Barbara’s Herb Peterson revolutionized breakfast as we know it by creating the Egg McMuffin. Now his son, Dave, is ushering in another revolution, one that may forever change our perception of McDonald’s.

League Leaders
The Santa Barbara National Charity League’s senior class includes 17 young women, each of whom has, during her six years in the mother-daughter philanthropic organization, volunteered numerous hours at various Santa Barbara organizations.

County contingency fund hit hard by fine
Santa Barbara County’s budget took another blow Tuesday as supervisors approved paying the state nearly $600,000 for California’s failure to install an automated child support system in the late 1990s.

El Vive!
According to the New Testament book of Acts, the Christian church’s “kick-off” meeting was on the Jewish holiday Pentecost, in which the people “were filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages” — todas las lenguas were represented. It seems appropriate, then, that the forebears of this church on the South Coast would have a place for each appropriate language — English and Spanish (albeit 2000 years later).

Kudos
